In a visit meant to spark big dreams, the Mayor of Kansas City, Kansas walked into Grant Elementary School, inspiring students to imagine the leaders they could one day become.
On Monday, November 17, Mayor Tyrone Garner participated in the school’s Breakfast and Books reading program, where he read to fifth-grade students.

Mayor Garner read the book titled Nosey Rosey Grew from Concrete. The rose that grew from concrete is from a poem by the late rapper Tupac Shakur.
The poem is a metaphor for overcoming hardship, with the rose symbolizing a person who succeeds despite coming from a difficult background.
Organizers of the Breakfast and Books program say it’s more than just about reading. It’s about showing up as a role model, setting a tone, and planting seeds of possibility.
“One of the most fulfilling parts of my professional career always has been mentoring, inspiring, and uplifting our young people,” said Mayor Garner.
Previous readers include Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree Sr., and the Honorable Judge Tony Martinez, for the 29th Judicial District Court of Kansas.
